Welcome to 10 Life Coaching Benefits for Authors. You may be wondering why there are so many posts with 10s on this blog. The reason is I want you to stay focused as you think about ten points in each post. Our world is known as the information age. Therefore, helping your mind stay focused on the main points is my plan. You get it now? Yep. There are more than ten things to learn about in this world. Welcome once again to this specialized post.
- Finding Your Life’s Purpose
It may sound easier or hardest to find your life purpose, depending on your mindset. We all have mindsets. Our mindsets can come from any combination or experiences, teachings, and information we have gathered for the years past.
I do know that a human being is a being, a spiritual entity. I don’t just believe this; I know it’s true and real. There are many clues to this fact about us, humans. Think about it, do we have to believe in the sun in order for it to exist or not? Whether we believe a sun exists or not, the fact remains the same—it exists.
My life purpose is to know God better in each microsecond, second, minute, hour, day, week, month and year. I want to know God in order for me to know myself better, just as God knows me. I believe this world is my classroom, where I learn about the Creator and also help others know who He is to them individually.
I don’t know what your life purpose is, but I think you have one. Maybe you have not seen it yet? If you know your life purpose, what is it then? Please tell us at the end of this post, okay? Why do you write? What do you write? Who do you think will read that? What do you want the reader to do or become after reading your work?
Think about the impact of your writing, keeping your life purpose as the driving force behind.
- Planning Your Life
After finding out what your life stands for in this short life, plan well. Are you a person that lives on whatever comes your way? I used to be in that world. But as time goes by, I have learned to plan ahead of time. I know what I will be doing ten years from now!
Awesome, right? You can do it too! Think about your life’s definite purpose, then plan what you will be doing each day, week, month and year.
For me, I write to share knowledge. But others have written enough already, what can I really write that is new? Well, I believe in my uniqueness, remember? I can write in the way only me can. I plan my life based on my definite purpose—knowing God better.
- Reading
Well, this is the third item already in my list of 10 life coaching benefits for authors. Can I really say a lot about this? You know that a better reader is the better author, right? I think it is true. But what do you read then?
Read anything readable. I do encourage you to remember your life’s definite purpose though even as you read wider. This is because what you read can be part of you. We become what we read, watch, listen to or do. This is what I mean by four ways of learning.
To improve your life as well as your writing career, read. Read newspapers, magazines, blog posts, social media post, e-books, print books and anything that can be read. But, know your reason for reading. In my case, it is about knowing God better.
- Listening
Here we go. Listening is another way to acquire knowledge, isn’t it? As you read or listen to something, you learn. But like reading, what do you listen to? Well, you can listen to people when they talk to you or near you. Listen to animals, birds and insects when you can.
You can listen to world news, preachers, teachers and mentors. You can listen to any message listenable. As you listen, think. As you listen, try not to talk at the same time. Pay attention to what you listen to and learn. Can you listen to everything? Yes, you can. But, remember your life’s definite purpose.
For me, world news is not important. Why? Because it is not even news to me. Is there anything new to hear about the world? It sounds strange and even ignorant to speak like this, right? I know why it sounds that way. For me, nothing makes news in this current world. You might have said to me, “Your father is dead!” my answer will be, “So what?”
This is because I know anything born will also die, true or false? If it’s true, then no need to panic. I don’t mean everyone accepts the same teaching as I do. But I am not alone. King David of old had the same mindset. I better do all I can to save life, but when gone, I can’t help but to take courage.
- Watching
The fifth step out of 10 life coaching benefits for authors is about watching. Like reading and listening, watching is another way to acquire knowledge through physical senses. Again, you can watch TV shows, world news, your mentors and teachers. You can watch anything watchable, but ask yourself, is what you watch beneficial to you?
In my four rules of success, you will find out that this is one of the things you do in order to succeed in life. I know, success means different things to different people. I may mean something totally different from what you may be thinking right now.
You can watch people in this real life, or watch them on your device. You can watch online or offline. As long as you can watch them, watch and learn. But, remember your life’s definite purpose.
- Doing
After reading, listening and watching, you can now try to do what you have learned by yourself. In our modern world of information and technology, you can watch how to write a computer code that will save the world from destruction 2,000 years after your death. You can watch how to make a mass destructive weapon.
You can watch almost anything you can ever imagine. But doing it is completely your own making. You have a decision to make after reading this post. In the same way, you have a decision to make after watching that film.
Doing is to enforce learning. Some people call it, learning by doing or by experience. I think learning by doing is beneficial to you as a writer, isn’t it? How long do you think you will anticipate writing your first book or article? Why are you not starting now?
- Join a Group
People learn together much. But what if I am not that kind of a person who likes being in a group? I am aware of people who don’t enjoy grouping. But this means you need to find the right group for you. If you find the like minded group, you will surely enjoy talking and acting.
Find out what you love doing. I personally love nature. I mean, the trees, animals, birds, insects and everything natural. I even have a belief, a theory that all living things have intelligence. Even non-living things do have a certain kind of intelligence.
It seems I understand birds, insects and animals in a unique way. I don’t think a scorpion stings people because they want to, so does all insects and reptiles. They attack people in self-defense. I believe humans are wildest than all wild animals, right?
- Have a Mentor
Okay, there we are again. Do you have someone you can call a mentor? Is it me? I will appreciate hearing my name or seeing it listed with the names of your teachers and mentors. I created this blog to share my thoughts with you and the world at large. I do have a mentor or two. These are people I listen to, watch and admire to learn from.
There are indeed more than 10 life coaching benefits for authors. But, how does this mentor issue benefit you as a person and as a writer in particular? Think about it. A mentor can be someone who helps you find your life purpose. I believe your life has a definite purpose, doesn’t it?
- Put Knowledge to Action
This is very different from learning by doing discussed above in number 6. Remember, you learn by reading, listening, watching and doing. But after learning, do you do anything with that knowledge? I know many who have spent time in studying, but d nothing at the end.
What’s the purpose of learning math if you can solve a simple problem that requires math? After attaining your MA in mechanical engineering, what have you designed? After learning about chemicals and how they react, have you created anything helpful mix to save lives?
Again, what are you writing about? Do you know you can help someone somewhere through writing? What inspires you to write even more?
- Focus on Your Life Purpose
At the end of these 10 life coaching benefits for authors lives something connected to the first point—your life purpose. Do everything in between with your life’s definite purpose in mind. What is my life purpose? It’s about knowing God better through creation. This is why I love nature. It excites me to see other creatures. I mean birds, animals, insects, fish and plants. Some may be dangerous to go near, but they all send me a message—there is God.
Things may happen to me or around me out of my control, will or power, but this has nothing to reverse my life purpose—personal legend. I never knew I will get married to two different women in my life time, but this is part of my journey. Good and bad things have happened, they are happening, and they may happen, yet all counts for the journey’s success.
I may father men and women in this world take them all to the best schools, but their success or failure lies in their personalities—individual’s life purpose. My children are not me, no matter how they look like me from the outside appearance.
Yes, I want to know the Maker of life much better as He knows me. As I learn to know Him better, I hope others may also learn from me about who He is to them individually.
