What Are The Literary Opportunities and Challenges for the Two Sudans?
Technology is both an opportunity as well as a challenge. For those who make use of it, it’s an opportunity. However, for those who don’t use it as they should, it’s an obstruction to their lives, in also includes literature. This is because technology can either help or hinder one’s success.
I remember being given this topic when I was in Nairobi, in 2018. This was at Moi University when a few South Sudanese and Sudanese students wanted to hear more about this interesting yet challenging topic. I am glad to share my views with you about the very topic in this article today.

Writing is a challenge for many in Sudan and South Sudan. This is because, like many other African countries, a few people know how to read and write in any human language in these sister-countries. Reading as well is a challenge, even to those who know how to write and read. This is because at the time of this writing, reading was not yet a culture for many of our people.
Is reading part of a personality trait or type? Does it mean some people were born readers and others were not? I just wonder. I wonder because this situation might be a global challenge, not just a challenge for Sudan and South Sudan or Africa. Even in Kenya, it seems most people don’t read often, even though they know how to read and write. In the same way, not every good reader is a writer.
Many people have issues using technology. By technology I mean computers. Most people who know how to use the smartphones only misuse them by doing things that don’t help them. Watching football is addictive and it doesn’t help you financially. But if you can use your smartphone to write a book and publish it on Amazon, you might be making at least $50/month or more if you are lucky. That’s the best way to go! That’s much better that using it for betting and other gambling that don’t help you.
What if you can use your smartphone to read books? What if you can use it to watch self-help videos or listen to motivational messages? Those are some of the good ways to make use of the phone. You need some entertainment, but you don’t need to be on Facebook for as long as you can. You need to plan your days. You need to execute your daily, weekly, and monthly personal plans.
How Important Is It To Know These Opportunities and Challenges?
I think it is very important for us to know that reading and writing are good parts of literature. Since we have challenges in both reading and writing, it’s good for us to know those challenges so that we might try our best to help ourselves. If you don’t know your enemy well, you are prone to loss the fight. In the same way, we must know these literary challenges and opportunities.
But is it enough to know these challenges and opportunities? What else must we do after knowing about them, individually, as well as collectively? I think reading articles like this are the starting point into fixing these issues. We need to make use of the reading and writing abilities for the best of our knowledge. This is life. This is good.
You have now known some of the good ways to use your smartphone and some of the bad ways. Maybe you have been using the phone for betting. Maybe you have using it to only watch funny videos to make you laugh. All of this is okay, as long as it doesn’t become the only thing you use the phone for. You need to use the phone in a way that will benefit you.
Self-learning using your phone on websites such as alison.com is the best way to use it. Knowledge is a potential power according to one of the American personal achievement writers and teachers, Napoleon Hill. I believe he was right. And knowledge is online. You can get it for free on Wikipedia.org and on other websites.
But do you even know how to search Google? Do you know Bing? Do you know Yahoo search engine? Maybe all you know is social media. Maybe you only know and use Facebook and Twitter because they came preinstalled on your phone? But there is more than that online. And if you are reading on the website, you are more than qualify to do your self-learning alone.
Maybe you believe you don’t know much about computers? You might even believe you don’t know how to click links on email and social media. Maybe you are scared they might lead you to some dreaded malware or spam websites? You might be right in all these fears. However, if you know the website you are visiting, there is no need to be scared anymore. You will surely need mobile data but that’s worth it.
How Can We Fix These Challenges and Make Use Of These Opportunities?
Check on your beliefs. Your beliefs make your personality. They are your anchors. They either tie you down or keep you floating and soaring into the air. It’s all your business to discover and then gradually improve your personality type. I still believe you can’t change your true personality type because it comes from your nature. I might be wrong.
Remember that most people would prefer things being done for them instead of being taught how to do them. They rather pay someone to do it, or promise to pay, instead of asking about how it is done. This is such a pity for South Sudanese people. But I am not included, are you?
First, after knowing your true self, you need to determine if you can change or improve your reading and writing concepts and habits that come with those beliefs. Many people believe that for them to write a good book, they must first learn everything about writing. Are you thinking like that now?
Be honest!
If you feel like you must first become a professor before you write your own life stories, your biography, then you need to read my book, The Writer’s Guide 101. I hope you will understand the philosophy in that book. The book is not about the steps of writing as such because steps are later things. The first thing is your beliefs about writing.
If you can change your beliefs about writing, you can change your behaviors about it, too. This is because writing is not a personality trait or type. It’s art. It’s what you do if you believe you can do it. In the same way, if you change your beliefs about reading in any human language, you will become a good reader.
However, reading is work, hard work. It takes practice and persistency to become a better reader. But you can become better at reading if you have a reason to read. If you also make a determination to read at least something short every day, you can improve your reading frequency. The more often you read, the easier it becomes to read a book.
The more you write, even if it means Facebook posts, the easier it becomes to write a blog article. But you might need to learn a few basic lessons on writing even though I believe no writer is exactly like the other. This is how to fix these literary opportunities and challenges in the world. In the same way, if you use a computer often, the easier it will become to you.
However, if your personality can’t help you, don’t force it. This means I am aware there are things you can’t do, and that’s just fine and natural, if at all you can’t do them because of your nature. For example, there are those who have issues with vision. However, this is not an excuse for not reading or writing because technology too has not yet left you out. There are tools you can use to help you read or write! This means there is no excuse for anything in our world of technology. For sure, you can write, self-edit, self-publish, self-market, and get self-paid for your writings! Learn how to do all these by clicking on those keywords in this section.
Personality Types and Technology as a Challenge and an Opportunity
We have already mentioned a few things about personality types and traits above when discussing the importance of learning about these literary opportunities and challenges. However, there is more to say about personality types and personality traits. This is because everything you do as we are going to see below stems out of your person.
Because of personality factors, some people read more than others. I am talking about those who managed to learn the art of reading and writing, not those who are known as illiterate. This is because personality matters. You can’t change your personality because it comes from your nature. It makes you unique and special.
However, you can change your beliefs about certain things, and this might look like you have managed to change your personality. A personality type is controlling your personality traits. That’s what it means. For example, there are things that you can’t change. You might not need to change them either. They are what makes you the only you on the face of the earth!
Now, let’s face the harsh reality. This means there are people who will never learn how to read and write in any language, not matter their age and opportunities. This is true because even in United States of America, there are people who can’t learn how to read and write no matter how you try to teach them. These people might not have any mental illness whatsoever!
If you know someone in this category, don’t blame them. Don’t even waste your time to try to teach them, if at all they proved they can’t. They might be very good in something else. They might know what you and I won’t be able to know. This is because reading and writing is science. Not everyone learns or loves the same sciences. Let them find what they are good at and do it.
The Literary Opportunities and Challenges for the Two Sudans and You
Now, what is your take on this article? You have learned a lot about personality types and how that affects how people make use of the opportunities and reduce the challenges involved. You have also learned that these literary opportunities and challenges might depend on how we see them. Which means a challenge can actually be seen as an opportunity depending on what it is.
In other words, technology can be a challenge or an opportunity as mentioned and explained earlier. So what do you think about these points in the article? Do you think reading is a challenge to you, personally? Do you think reading books is a challenge to you, personally? How about technology? Is it serving you?
Let’s be personal. Let’s be realistic. Let’s face it head on. Let’s be in the light by being truthful to each other. This can only happen if you want to improve your reading and writing beliefs. It all starts with a belief. Those beliefs might not be your own. You might have caught then in the air. Someone else might have influenced you.
But you need to face the world as it is. Technology is a tool for everything including writing and reading. In fact, I have a keyboard software that can make you type in your own language even when Windows or Android don’t. That’s technology at work! You can do all things through technology which strengthens you! Can you say amen?
